VA-07 GOP candidate Derrick Anderson launched his third ad of the campaign on Wednesday, highlighting his Trump-aligned policies on the border, guns, and abortion ahead of the nomination on Tuesday.
“Lawlessness on our streets. Abortion on demand. Joe Biden and the radical Democrats are destroying America,” the ad says. “Conservative warrior Derrick Anderson is ready to fight back.”
Anderson, a military veteran, is among the top candidates in a tight race against State Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania), who has the most name recognition, and Prince William Supervisor Yesli Vega, who has racked up a large number of Trump-aligned and strongly Republican endorsements.
“Anderson will fight for President Trump’s wall. Anderson will fight for our Second Amendment rights, and Anderson will fight for the sanctity of life,” the ad states. “Trump conservative Derrick Anderson is battle tested, and he puts America first.”
Democrats Weigh in on VA-02 GOP Race
In VA-02, Democratic super PAC Patriot Majority PAC is running an ad supporting strongly-Republican candidate Jarome Bell for the GOP nomination to run against Representative Elaine Luria (D-VA-02). Bell is running against Tommy Altman and also against State Sen. Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach), who is expected to win the nomination. Thanks to redistricting, Luria is especially vulnerable to a Republican challenger, especially a well-known candidate like Kiggans.
National Journal writer Josh Kraushaar recently wrote about Democratic involvement GOP races across the country, and highlighted the Patriot Majority ad as another example on Twitter.
The ad emphasizes Bell’s efforts to align himself with Trump.
“He’s running for Congress to make America great again and he supports Trump’s election audit in all 50 states and Bell wants to outlaw abortion. No wonder Bell’s been endorsed by Trump’s ICE director and General Michael Flynn,” the ad says. “If Jarome Bell wins, Donald Trump wins too.”
“Mark Meadows Bankrolls Jarome Bell’s Campaign in VA-02 Primary,” the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said in a June 10 release.
Bell posted the article on his Facebook page with a series of American flag emojis.
On Tuesday, Bell posted a picture of a mailer from the Democratic Party of Virginia to Facebook.
“If we pick Jarome Bell, he’ll be a copy of Trump in Congress,” the mailer states, with cartoonish graphics of Bell and Trump clinging to the claw of a claw-machine arcade game.
“I’m a bit offended,” Bell wrote. “No way would I ever wear a tie like that or those shoes and I always wear a belt!!”
